View Full Version : A post-Moria curiousity
Simply put, is it possible that the necessity to name a "main" toon is outdated?

Yes and no.
Yes, because there needs to be a priority / fairness system to allow people into limited raids or to allocate dkp. Imagine if I had 2 accounts and 14 level 60s, all with 60 radience. I could hit every turtle, every watcher, and DN and earn whatever DKP a week. Then imagine you had 1 toon, and could only get 1/3 or 1/4 the dkp. Then it happens, that item we both want drops for the first time in 6 months, who wins? I do, probably, since I probably have 3-4 times your dkp (unless we allocate it per toon, leaving oddball alts like helori loaded with unused/uncared about dkp for helping while our mains sit out because the healer was needed *again* a possible but ugly solution that discourages folks from healing or tanking).
No because its pretty easy to get 3-4 toons geared out fully for watcher/DN --- all equally good at their jobs, making it hard to choose which one you like best.
The "main" concept is one way to make it fair between the 10 toon guy and the 1 toon guy while making it easy for the officers.

well, If you look at it some people in the kin has Alts who are very very well equipment maybe some even better then some people mains. People also have the ability to switch main to soot there needs or the needs of the kin. This makes it hard when people do have some alts and main that both have watcher rad when others don't.
Another thing is how does one fight to get the right amount of DKP to fight with the mains who goes one every DKP run. Those people can make up to 4 DKP a week when others only 1 or 2 people can't complete with that.

I've always been slightly torn by this rule too because I do like each of my characters fairly equally. but I absolutely see the value in it though. I think there are positives and negatives on both sides and IMO the current policy is the better of the two at least for now.
